There is a lot of attention online for the action of Gerard, Michiel and Giel from 3FM. Last Friday we showed you that there is a lot of talk about Serious Request 2012 on various online media. Various retweet actions are tapping into the massive buzz surrounding the successful Serious Request. But who is behind such retweet actions and does their success contribute to the success of Serious Request?
When we looked back this morning at what happened online last week, we noticed a big peak in the messages about Serious Request 2012. A peak of almost 150,000 messages last Sunday. This is about the same as the buzz around a final broadcast of the popular TVOH!
When we zoom in on this sharp increase in the already abundant tweets, Facebook messages and blog list to data posts surrounding #SR12 , it turns out that the increase is entirely due to a rather popular retweet action by @3FMSR12 with more than 60,000 messages.

This account, titled SerieusRequest 2012, pretends to be 'Official RT account of 3FM Serious Request' and now has 33,469 followers. At the moment, the number of followers of this account increases by about 150 every half hour. For example: the official Twitter account of 3FM Serious Request @SeriousRequest now has 138,080. Incidentally, the account itself stopped tweeting yesterday. The retweets continue unabated. See below for the number of messages per hour.
What stands out in the data is that the majority, ⅔ of the messages, are sent from mobile phones. These are 40,406 messages. The peak in reporting was yesterday at 11 am with more than 20,000 messages. In the aftermath, another peak was seen between 5 and 6 pm with more than 6,000 messages.
