Twins Merle and Stijn talking to each other

Post by Bappy10 »

In my previous article I explained whether there is an explanation for the success of my viral video . Afterwards I received numerous reactions by mail, Twitter and on the blog with additional explanations: the video is touching, it is about babies, the duration of the video is shorter than a minute. And although this is of course true, my conclusion remains that the creation of a viral video is in principle not predictable.

In the meantime, the video, which I posted on YouTube on May 15, 2011, has been viewed more than 3 million times. On October 14, 2012, this was slightly more than 1 million. The snowball effect seems to continue. As input for this article, list to data I use the statistics up to and including Friday, December 28, 2012, which I compare with those of October 14, 2012.

More women than men
What is striking among the viewers of the video is that the percentage of women has increased slightly. From two-thirds to over 70%, with the majority of viewers still in the 45 to 54 age category and from the United States.

What happens to viewers when they see the video? Up to October 14, 2,225 viewers have marked the video as 'like' and 96 as 'dislike' (4.3%). On December 28, 6,738 viewers have marked the video as 'like' and 429 as 'dislike' (6.4%). Proportionally, more people have clicked on 'dislike'. On October 14, 499 people have placed the video among their favorites, after which 54 (10.8%) have later deleted it. On December 28, this is 1,256 people, of whom 115 (9.2%) also later delete it. The number of reactions to the video is still not very high, namely 735 or 0.02% of the total number of views.

The video was shared 817 times on October 14, and 2,136 times on December 28. Facebook is by far the most popular social media to share the video with 1,892 (89%). YouTube now also has an option to forward a favorite video to the most well-known social media. For example, this tweet:
