Sphero ball controlled with your iPad (with augmented reality)

Post by Bappy10 »

Before the annual consumer electronics show International CES started in Las Vegas, two presentations were given that were worth attending: '2013 CES trends to watch' and 'State of the CE industry'.

2013 trends to Watch
According to Shawn Dubravac , the chief economist of the CEA (consumer electronic association), there are four major trends for 2013 that are also visible at the show itself in the stands of the suppliers. These are the following four trends:

A post smartphone era
Age of algorithms
Contextual connectivity
Changing flow of storytelling
A post smartphone era
According to Dubravac, we will use the smartphone differently. 65% of smartphone use is currently list to data not related to communication. Our smartphones and tablets are becoming so-called 'hub devices'. You can use your smartphone to open a door, set the thermostat or play with your Sphero ball . Or you can use your smartphone for all kinds of fitness activities. A nice quote: “the smartphone has become the viewfinder of your digital life.”

Age of algorithms
AlgorithmsMore and more data is being generated by all the sensors and smartphones. Take for example the Fitbug sensor that tracks your activity and enables you to live healthier. But also sensors that track the moisture of your plant's soil and send you an SMS when it is time to water the plants. Dubravac also expects to see Google's Driverless car technology in cars within a few years (between 2020 and 2025). According to Google, 300,000 km have been driven without a driver without accidents, all thanks to the use of sensors and smart algorithms.
