Legislation on burning in Brazil

Post by monira444 »

Since the beginning of the year, other actions have already been implemented, concentrating efforts on 21 critical municipalities in the Amazon, chosen for being the most vulnerable to fires. Among the main initiatives is the creation of a task force with the support of several agencies, such as the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) and the National Public Security Force.

These teams work directly to combat the fires, both with forest firefighters and by providing supplies and medical assistance to the affected populations, especially in isolated areas. The government also launched awareness campaigns and, throughout the year, intensified satellite monitoring to identify fire outbreaks and areas of deforestation.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Justice, through Minister Flávio Dino, was croatia mobile database summoned by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to detail the measures in progress and those that will still be adopted to combat the fires.

On the 19th of this month, a broader hearing will be held at the STF, with the participation of the ten states most affected by the major fires: the nine states of the Legal Amazon and Mato Grosso do Sul, which is home to part of the Pantanal. This meeting aims to discuss joint solutions to mitigate the damage and intensify efforts to control and prevent fire outbreaks.

The Forest Code and the Environmental Crimes Law prohibit the use of fire for deforestation, except in specific situations, such as agricultural practices in controlled areas or scientific research. However, the law allows controlled burning in some contexts, such as in indigenous and quilombola areas, where fire is part of traditional subsistence practices.

The recently instituted National Policy for Integrated Fire Management establishes guidelines for the sustainable use of fire in rural areas. This policy aims to reduce damage from wildfires, restore the ecological role of fire, and allow controlled use in duly authorized situations.

However, there is a consensus that monitoring and law enforcement need to be strengthened to combat illegal burning, which continues to be one of the main causes of forest fires in Brazil.
