Did you notice the difference? Don't you think that in the second version we have something more fluid? It's thanks to the use of the relative pronouns "qui", "que", "quoi", "dont", "où". Today, we're going to study these five words together so that you can speak French in a more natural way.
Hello and thank you for joining me for this new video. There are several kinds of relative pronouns in French. We have simple relative pronouns (qui, que, quoi, dont, où), compound relative pronouns (duquel, quelle, quel) and neutral relative pronouns (ce qui, ce dont, ce que).
In a previous video, we talked about neutral relative pronouns. If this is a topic that interests you, if you want to go further, you can watch this video right after. But today, we're focusing on simple relative pronouns.
Why bring this up? Simply because the French really use these simple relative pronouns a lot, and if you master them, if you understand them and if you manage to use them, you will have a much more natural way of expressing yourself.
So don't panic, this might seem a bit technical to you. It's not a super easy subject to explain. I imagine it's not super easy for you to understand. For us, native speakers, it's easy, because we've heard them all our lives, we've learned them in a natural way, so we understand them. In fact, we use them without even switzerland whatsapp number data knowing why exactly. When you learn as an adult, you have to understand the mechanisms behind it. But the best way is to go about it without stress, watch this video and then listen many times to really understand them 100%.

Let's go back to our simple relative pronouns. What are they for? They are simply used to connect two sentences to make one. The pronoun, il will replace a word in the second sentence. This is very important for speaking because it will make the sentences more fluid and it will be more elegant because it avoids repetitions. You saw it earlier with the dog. My dog's name is Max. My dog is 7 years old. Let's repeat ourselves.
We will discover examples for each of these relative pronouns and we start with "who". It replaces the subject of the verb that follows. It can either replace a person or replace a thing.
For example, if you have two sentences: I'm watching a movie. This movie tells the story of a French soldier during World War II. "The movie" is the subject of the second sentence. The verb is "to tell." The movie tells. To avoid repeating the word "movie," I'm watching a movie, this movie, to avoid repeating the word "movie," we're going to replace it with "who." I'm watching a movie that tells the story of a French soldier during World War II. "Who" will replace the word "movie" here.
