From iPod to thermostat

Post by Bappy10 »

Paris is once again the scene of perhaps the largest internet conference in Europe: LeWeb . This year's theme is 'Internet of Things'. This first day of the three-day conference was filled with many presentations about how devices and people communicate with each other. But of course there was more. For example, both Facebook and Evernote launched a new service.
It may not sound like the most exciting transition, but Tony Fadell (also designer of the iPod) is very enthusiastic about it. If you realize that the thermostat is responsible for 60% of the energy you use in your home, it may not be so strange. With his company Nest Labs, Fadell developed the Nest : a smart thermostat that regulates the temperature in your home using 5 sensors.

Of course, we already know this in the Netherlands in the form of the Essent E-thermostat. But the Nest goes just a little list to data bit further. To start with, it looks just a little bit better and that is not entirely unimportant. Nowadays, it is no longer just about technology, the eye also wants something. In addition, the Nest deals with the data it collects in a smart way. An example of this is the 'auto away' function.

The Nest automatically turns off after it has not detected you for 3 hours. By analyzing the data, the Nest knows exactly on which days you go to work at 08:00. On those days, the Nest will automatically go into 'auto away' mode. Although the Nest is currently only available in a limited number of countries, it is very popular and is used all over the world.
