There are more creepy companies and tools

Post by Bappy10 »

Suman was anything but happy with the services that uberVU had apparently used and after his complaint appeared on various social networks and websites, uberVU announced that it would no longer use the tools of LeadLander. But hey, don't think that Suman wants to do business with uberVU in any way. And other people will think the same now that they know what kind of tools uberVU tried to score leads with.

But LeadLander is not the only one with questionable tools at its disposal. Evercookie is a javascript API that produces list to data very persistent cookies in a browser. The goal is to identify a user, even after he has deleted standard cookies, Flash cookies (Local Shared Objects) and the like. By storing cookie data in various types of storage mechanisms available in the browser, Evercookie can achieve this. And Relead does much the same as LeadLander: “we can track exactly who visits your websites and how valuable or interested they are in your company. See complete company profiles of your visitors: company name, industry, size. And soon we will also add credit risk.”

These may be far-fetched examples, but it is also possible to find out a lot about your visitor thanks to the many social media plugins that adorn many websites these days. Anyone who is logged in with a Facebook account is followed on sites that have a 'like' button on the site, even if that visitor does not click on the Facebook button. And even logged out Facebook users can theoretically still be followed .

The question is how you deal with the possible availability of these tools as a company. So therefore: how far do you go as a company? Which customer data do you use and which do you not? And how far do you ultimately want to go? Where is the limit?
