What's New in WordPress 5.9 – Full Site Editing

Post by mouakter13 »

WordPress 5.9 Josephine is here ! The first WordPress version of the year was initially scheduled to be released on December 14, 2021. Due to several open issues and unresolved bugs, the final version was delayed and has now been released on January 25, 2022.

If you’re wondering what’s new in WordPress 5.9, the short answer is Full Site Editing (FSE).

And in fact, many of the features in version 5.9 are only available if you're using a theme that supports Full Site Editing, such as the new default theme, Twenty Twenty-Two .

With WordPress 5.9, we reach the heart of the second phase of the Gutenberg roadmap : the Customization phase , which focuses primarily on Full Site Editing, Block Patterns, the Block Directory, and Block-Based Themes.

With 5.9, which will be released next month, we are - I would say - at the MVP, the Minimum Viable Product of this phase of Gutenberg customization.

These words from Matt Mullenweg in 2021 State of the Word best sum up the key features of the new version of WordPress.

That said, what's new in the first version of WordPress for 2022?

Let's find out!

Global Styles: A graphical interface for theme. json
With the release of WordPress 5.8 in 2021, manipulating the lebanon whatsapp number data theme.json file became the standard way for theme developers to customize editor settings and styles.

WordPress 5.9 takes things to the next level by introducing a graphical interface that allows users to customize style presets for their websites, either globally or at the block level, without writing a single line of code.

The Global Styles mechanism should significantly alter the way you are used to customizing the appearance of your websites, as Global Styles affect several aspects of the design of WordPress sites.

First, the Global Styles interface replaces the Customizer and is now the only way to customize settings and styles with themes in bulk. Also, complex theme options admin pages will no longer be necessary. This provides a new standard way to configure theme settings and styles, while also should streamline the theme development workflow.

With Global Styles, WordPress users gain more control over the presentation of their websites, both globally and by block type, beyond the context of individual pages or posts.
