The second thing is to have a pleasant routine.

Post by jrineakter »

So today, I would like to talk to you about my current routine which has evolved, which will probably evolve again, but I have kept three rules, three simple rules, three clear rules, which I already presented in this episode of July 2012, is that my routine had to be simple. Gone are the days when I would say "well, I'm going to start with half an hour of sport, then I'm going to do some stretching, I'm going to do some yoga, I'm going to do a little meditation, I'm going to learn Italian, I'm going to read". Those routines are over for me, because it was too much and it wasn't easy. I want to have a simple routine.

I want… because it’s not easy to get up at 5:30, when you could stay in bed for another hour… I want it to be pleasant and it is. I’m just going to give you the two little tips that make it pleasant for me. The first is that I do things that interest me. I love doing what I do during my routine. And the second is that I start with a little coffee and I love coffee. So it has to be simple. The second thing is to have a routine that is therefore pleasant.

And the third one is to have a distraction-free routine, which is to say I made the mistake for a long time of keeping my phone and I would watch Eurosport and the news during my lebanon whatsapp number data routine, and it's really stupid to get up at 5:30 to watch Eurosport. I think we can all agree. So it has to be distraction-free. I leave my phone on airplane mode and I only look at it later. Anyway, if I was in bed, I wouldn't look at the phone.

So here are three simple rules: my routine must be simple, enjoyable and without distraction. And what is fixed in my life and what will remain fixed forever, I think and I hope, is to have a routine that I respect and to follow these three rules. On the other hand, the activities that I will do in the morning, the time at which I will get up, it will depend, it will evolve according to my imperatives, my family, how the family evolves, where I am, what my age is and what my objectives are.

Right now, my kids have to get up at 6:30 to go to school. Emma is in middle school, in fifth grade, and Tom is in fifth grade, so they both have to get up at 6:30, so I have less time than I used to. At one time, they got up at 7:30, at one time, they got up at 7, so that gave me more time. Now, 6:30 is early, so that's why I've moved my wake-up time up to 5:30. Now, in the last few years, I tended to get up at 6, but I've moved my wake-up time up to 5:30 because I need to have an hour.

Warning, warning! When you get up earlier, it's really important to go to bed earlier. This is another mistake I made when I started, about ten years ago, is to continue to go to bed later and get up earlier. And it's never, ever a good idea to neglect your sleep. So now, I decided to no longer get up at 6 o'clock, but at 5:30. I brought my bedtime forward, so I go to bed at 9:30 p.m. from now on. Before, it was 10 p.m.

And so I adapted the 2022 version and here is what I do. So you will see that it is very simple, this routine. The alarm rings, I get up, I go to the bathroom, I drink some water, I prepare my coffee, I go into the living room, I take a deep breath, really inflate my lungs while looking out the window.

Then I read a few paragraphs from the Bible, because I'm always on a spiritual quest. I talked about it in detail in an episode of the podcast in November. It's called " my spiritual path ." So you can go to the Français Authentique blog, www.francaisauthentique.com/blog , and search, you type in "spiritual path," and you can listen to that episode, because that's not the topic today. But I spend 10-15 minutes reading a few pages from the Bible.
