Sharing, commenting, posting: 75 percent of Internet users are more active than before

Whether own posts, stories or comments: During the corona pandemic, three quarters of Internet users in Germany are increasingly active on social media: Overall, 75 percent say they have been using platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Xing, Twitter and Co. more intensively since the outbreak of the coronavirus in Germany.

According to the study, 62 percent of Internet users say that they have been reading more posts about current events on social networks since the outbreak of the corona pandemic in Germany. Almost one in three (32 percent) posts their own stories more often. Just as many (31 percent) comment more on other users' posts. 28 percent share more posts or articles about current events - and almost one in five (18 percent) posts more frequently with their own content.
Respondents were able to provide several options. "In times of extensive contact restrictions, social media helps people stay in touch with friends and family, follow public events, and find entertainment and distraction. Social distancing becomes more bearable with social media," says Bitkom CEO Dr. Bernhard Rohleder.
