Virtual production

The latter thus becomes a spectator/television viewer 3.0. How can we put them at the center of a media like television today? How can we involve them, co-construct with them? One possible answer is the proposal of immersive and interactive experiences, developed at France Télévisions within the Innovation department, in the Narrative Research department, whose objective is to explore the storytelling of tomorrow with new technologies.

From November 4 to 6, the 6th edition of VRDays Europe was held , a trade show dedicated to virtual, augmented and mixed reality technologies and all their variations, which are grouped under the term Extended Reality or XR.

The physical part of the show in Amsterdam was reduced chinese america data to a minimum and most of the conferences or round tables were held via videoconference. Even the exhibitors' stands were virtual. On the program: immersive storytelling, serious games, hardware evolution but also innovations in the field of health.

With a new theme in this year of pandemic: the contribution of virtual technology to telework and remote collaboration. A good prefiguration of what the world of work of tomorrow could represent.

The use of real-time 3D engines like Epic Games' Unreal Engine or Unity, originally intended for video games, is increasingly present in television and film production. This allows directors to obtain the near-final rendering of the scene without waiting for post-production, and above all to be able to modify the virtual part of the scene on the fly, whether in green screen studios, or thanks to LED walls that directly display the 3D decor, notably used during the production of The Mandalorian .

Volumetric video is growing and the increasing quality of capture and rendering methods makes it a promising tool for filming people in a non-intrusive way in 3D. The content thus captured can be integrated into a 3D scene and broadcast in virtual or augmented reality.
