A little history
Pinterest was founded in 2006. Its creator, Ben Silberman, worked at Google in the online advertising department. After two years, he left the company and decided to create his own product. He enlisted his college friend Paul Sciarr to implement the ideas.

The forefather of Pinterest was the Tote app. Its idea was for users to save photos of speeches that companies sent them via email or text message in the app so they wouldn’t forget to buy them.

The idea turned out to be a failure. Users added products to their Favorites and shared them with friends, but there were practically no sales.

The transition from the Tote mobile app to a new product occurred in 2009. The name Pinterest was coined by Silberman's wife during a Thanksgiving dinner.
