According to Lev Zasypko, First Deputy General Director of Marine Integrated Systems (MIS) LLC, the main achievement of Transas Navigator, which provided it with a "breakthrough into the market" at the time, is ship and shore electronic mapping and communication systems, software for them, as well as digitalized precise maps of almost all navigation areas with the ability to adjust them weekly.
"After Wärtsilä purchased Transas, malaysia whatsapp number database
the rights to the developments passed to the Finns, who left the Russian market in 2022, taking everything they had purchased with them and partially moving their staff abroad - Wärtsilä offices in Sweden, Germany, Singapore, Korea and others are operating as usual. Transas' Russian clients were deprived of software updates and maintenance of previously installed equipment that ensures the safety of shipping. Hence the risks of errors in maneuvering calculations, including the risks of ship collisions. Naturally, Russian companies entered this business sector. Along with Transas' attempts to retain clients, Sitronics KT JSC, Transas' main competitor, has achieved serious success, claiming to create a single digital system for ensuring the safety of shipping, where all the latest solutions will be integrated. Sitronics needs time, which means Transas still has it too...", the expert says.
Deputy General Director for Product Development and GR of Glazar LLC Alexander Bayev believes that Transas Navigator has a chance to take key positions in the Russian maritime navigation market.
"Each company is delving into the development of narrow solutions, but in general they provide technological sovereignty. Sitronics KT (as part of AFK Sistema) can acquire them all, including Transas, but, as far as I know, no one has set such a task in the short term. In principle, the marine navigation market is divided into segments. Sim Tech, for example, is mainly engaged in coastal and port infrastructure, Sitronics KT works to a greater extent on navigation products in the open seas, and Transas is trying to enter all segments. Sitronics KT is a really strong player, but for now it has a number of technical problems that need to be solved. Transas has a huge potential of brand recognition, acquired long before the arrival of Wärtsilä, and technical, managerial and business experience accumulated during the period of "Finnish ownership". This is a good historical base to regain its former leadership in the market, if, of course, it allows "Sitronics KT" and they will be able to use it skillfully..." - the expert believes.
Mothers and daughters
Finnish Wärtsilä had three Russian subsidiaries, all of which were located in St. Petersburg. In addition to Transas Navigator, these were OOO Värtsilä Vostok and AO Värtsilä Digital Technologies.
"Vyartsilya Vostok" was engaged in the supply of propeller-rudder systems for Russian customers, as well as the development of civil vessel projects. According to one of them, PSZ "Yantar" is building the fishing freezer trawler "Viktor Gavrilov", one of the largest to date. Since mid-July, its general director Konstantin Nortsev has become a 100% owner of the company. Some time later, the company was renamed to OOO "V-Vostok".
"Vyartsilya Digital Technologies" specialized in creating software for navigation and ship control systems and formally still exists. Its shareholders are not disclosed.
In mid-June, the company's team created a new business, EMCT, whose representative declared its readiness to take on the tasks of expert and technical support for current Wärtsilä users, as well as to develop and bring to market domestic software and hardware solutions that can replace Wärtsilä products. 90% of EMCT belongs to the St. Petersburg-based OOO RBR-Factor of Natalia Klimenko.
In May, EMCT entered into a partnership with a local manufacturer of electronic navigation charts, OOO Abris. They founded the company Advant, which plans to create software for ship navigation.
