Hackers seize data on 143 million Equifax customers

Post by pappu857 »

Hackers are giving no respite to large companies . The latest to suffer the attacks of hackers has been the credit reporting company Equifax .

The company has confirmed that a group of unidentified individuals accessed its systems and stole information from 143 million users , mostly from the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

The cyberattack is more serious than the one suffered by Target in 2013, when the financial information of more than 41 million people was exposed and the company was forced to pay more than $18.5 million in lawsuits from users.

In the specific case of Equifax, there are still no concrete figures on the economic impact of the attack, although it is estimated that the damages could amount to several billion dollars.

Equifax is responsible for calculating the credit risk of consumers australia phone number when applying for loans to buy cars or homes. Precisely for this reason, the company has privileged information on millions of customers, such as full names, addresses, telephone numbers, credit history, credit card numbers, dates of birth, social security numbers and even driver's license numbers.

The data was apparently stolen by hackers due to a vulnerability within their web application , which was exploited from last May until July 29, when the intrusion was finally detected.

Despite its magnitude and the sensitivity of the data stolen by hackers, the truth is that the Equifax cyberattack is not on a par with that of Yahoo !, in which the data of more than 1.5 billion people was compromised.

However, the information that hackers have stolen from Equifax is much more sensitive and delicate than the information they stole from the Internet company .
