The similarities such as common connections, education, employers and locations are now grouped together in a small infographic in the right bar.
Since the update it is also possible to add different media to certain sections of your profile. This way you can add presentations, photos, videos, etc. to your summary, work experience and education.
Add media to your LinkedIn profile
Apps?
Within the old profile there was the possibility to add certain apps. It was very easy to link your WordPress, list to data Slideshare, TripIt or your Portfolio (Behance) to your personal profile. In the mail preceding the switch to the new profile LinkedIn already announced that they are going to streamline the above external services. Some apps are therefore no longer supported on the LinkedIn homepage or on your profile.

Fortunately, this does not mean that you can no longer use the above services within LinkedIn. Below are a number of quick links so that you can adjust your settings if desired.

WordPress & SlideShare
Want to integrate WordPress into your profile? Download the Jetpack Plugin for WordPress and follow these instructions .

Your SlideShare presentations will be automatically migrated to the 'summary section' of your new profile. The display is not yet optimal (old presentations are shown first), but perhaps the update is also an opportunity to organize these presentations again. You can also connect your LinkedIn profile within SlideShare and automatically share your new uploads on LinkedIn.

Want to link your (business) trips to your LinkedIn profile? Click this link to (re)activate the app. The new view is definitely an improvement.

Behance Portfolio Display : This app will also be migrated into the 'summary section' of your new profile.

Missed opportunity
A missed opportunity in the new profile is the ability to include a direct link to more information in the body of the text. In principle, this can be overcome by the ability to add media to specific sections. But sometimes you want to include a link to more information in the body of the description of your work experience.

There is also a chance that adding media to your profile will remove a barrier to also adding irrelevant content to your LinkedIn profile. For example, you can now also place Spotify content on your LinkedIn profile or add images from Pinterest, Twitpic and Mobypicture. Try to be very critical about what you want to share within LinkedIn.

The display of groups on your profile could also have been better. There is no possibility to put the groups in a desired order. On the new profile, the groups are displayed in alphabetical order.

Getting Started
The switch to the new profile is the perfect opportunity to update your profile yourself. A few points of attention:

The profile picture has become (even) more important. So make sure you have a good profile picture and upload it in the right resolution.
Think about a good headline right away. Make sure you can distinguish yourself from other LinkedIn users and try to avoid these words .
Make sure your contact information is complete and accurate. Add (custom) links to the company website, your Twitter account, your blog and update your email details.

Add (relevant) media to your summary, work experience and/or education. Think of Slideshare presentations, portfolio, case videos etc.
Share interesting news with your connections. Your updates are now displayed much more clearly on your profile.
