The results are sometimes remarkable, but are mainly in line with expectations.

80% of SMEs active
The SME sector in the Netherlands has made a great start in 2012. Over 80% of respondents use social list to data media. Our survey was distributed via various (online) channels, including a number of industry organisations. The actual figures are therefore probably lower. Last Wednesday, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) presented that four out of ten companies are active with social media. With our research, we will delve deeper into the working methods of the SME sector.

Furthermore, it can be seen that B2B companies use social media more than B2C companies. The reason for not starting with social media is mainly lack of knowledge and time. A quarter of these companies indicate that the target group is not present on social media. Given the high social media penetration among the Dutch population, this is remarkable. Is the target group not present? Or does this show that the SME has insufficient knowledge? This will probably differ per case.

Facebook, Twitter & LinkedIn most popular for SMEs
Among respondents who use social media, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn are by far the most popular networks. In addition, we see, not surprisingly, that companies that are active in B2B use LinkedIn more and that B2C companies use Facebook more.
