Conducting comprehensive studies of the impact of electromagnetic radiation on living organisms is provided for in the draft Strategy for the Development of the Communications Industry of the Russian Federation until 2035 of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation. The document notes that the studies are needed to develop requirements for the placement and operation of 4G/5G/6G networks in order to "rationally and scientifically reduce the requirements for permissible standards of electromagnetic radiation of PRTS equipment." Let us recall that all 4G/5G/6G networks are planned to be built in Russia on domestic equipment.

A source close to the Russian egypt whatsapp resource Ministry of Digital Development told ComNews that the strategy initially proposed to immediately increase the maximum radiation power of Russian base stations, but Russia's chief sanitary doctor Anna Popova spoke out against it. "She said no, that she would not allow any increases without preliminary studies, since this is a sensitive issue for people, that they already do not really understand how cell towers on the roof of a house affect them, since the number of appeals to Roskomnadzor on this topic is always very large. After that, this wording appeared in the text of the document," the source told ComNews.

, Information Technology and Communications Alexander Khinshtein told ComNews that any discussion of changes to existing sanitary standards for electromagnetic radiation should begin only after thorough scientific research. "The issue is not the communication parameter, but the level of electromagnetic radiation. If the research confirms that there is an opportunity to soften these requirements, then this is a topic for discussion. If they do not confirm, then there is no topic for discussion. But in any case, since this is a resonant issue and affects the interests of people, these changes should not be made in secret," Alexander Khinshtein told ComNews. He added that such research should only be conducted by specialists in the field of human health protection - for example, the structures of Rospotrebnadzor, the Ministry of Health and the Federal Medical and Biological Agency.

A long overdue need

PJSC MegaFon called the upcoming revision of maximum permissible radiation levels a long-overdue necessity. "The current standards were adopted several decades ago and do not correspond to the current level of development of science and technology. At the same time, we believe that such work should be based on the results of research that both the state and society will have full confidence in," MegaFon's press service told ComNews.

PJSC MTS called Russian requirements for electromagnetic radiation "some of the most stringent in the world." "In Russia, radiation should not exceed 10 μW/cm2 (microwatts per square centimeter), while in accordance with the conclusion of the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), the recommended standard is 10 W/m2, which is equivalent to 1000 μW/cm2," emphasizes a representative of the MTS press service.
