LThe TikTok Lite app has just landed in Spain and France, but the light version of the famous social network has already set off alarm bells in the European Commission . The body has expressed concern about the possible promotion of addictive behaviour that this application may promote, and in particular, its reward system, which gives points based on time of use and interactions.
This system, which in theory would only be accessible to those over 18, is already available in France, but the function has not yet been unlocked in Spain.
TikTok must submit a risk assessment today
Yesterday, under the DSA ( Digital Services Act ), the Commission requested a report from TikTok detailing the risk assessment that it should have carried out before launching its app within the European bosnia and herzegovina number data Union. Likewise, the deadline established to provide said report is 24 hours , so today the social network must respond to the demands of the European body.
As the Commission explains in its statement, this action focuses on the impact that the "Task and Reward Lite" programme, i.e. TikTok Lite's reward system, " could have on the protection of minors , as well as on the mental health of users , in particular with regard to the possibility of inducing addictive behaviour ".
In addition, TikTok will have to submit a report outlining the measures it has implemented to mitigate this series of risks . Although it will have a slightly longer deadline for this, specifically until April 26 .
