Orbital Audio — Ricky Martin's startup for true music lovers

3D, 4D and 8D music is created through surround sound technology and complex mixing. Sound engineers use various techniques to create the feeling of sound around them: for example, delays and reverberations.



Pop musician Ricky Martin and the team at his newly formed company Martin Music Labs believe they have made a breakthrough in the field of sound. Their Orbital Audio technology does not require special apps or equipment and provides a personalized approach to listening to music.

The idea came to Ricky Martin during the pandemic.

“The first two days in isolation were overwhelming,” Martin says. “Everyone was saying to me, ‘Ricky, we’re going to have to cancel all your tours.’ And I was like, ‘Wait. Let’s just listen to music. It’s my medicine.’”

Martin's eleventh studio album was supposed to be released in south africa number data January, but the pandemic forced the singer to reconsider his plans. He divided the album into two parts: Pausa and Play. The first was released in May, and the second is preparing for release.

After the tour was canceled, Martin decided to up the ante on the new tracks. He turned to his sound engineer Jason Joshua to figure out how to make the tracks on Pausa more immersive. As Martin put it, “Make each track individual and make it fly around me,” he recalls. “And boom, Orbital Audio was born.”

“We didn’t start the project to reinvent sound. We did it to give Ricky what he wanted—it didn’t exist at the time,” says sound engineer Martina.

Big companies like Sony and Dolby have been developing immersive audio technologies for years, but Martin and Joshua insist that their Orbital Audio technology is the first of its kind because it doesn't require special hardware or a separate platform.

“That was the most important thing: Ricky demanded that the technology be available on any phone, anywhere in the world, on $5 headphones or $100 headphones,” says Joshua.

Audio is more than 3D or 8D sound, as the attention to detail is paid to every part of the song.

“You’re surrounded by the whole track, not just Ricky or the guitar or whatever you want to choose,” Joshua says. “That was our goal: how do we make the music more personal? We actually had to come up with a new technology.”
